The 2026 Ferrari Challenge North America weekend at Sonoma Raceway wrapped on July 26, delivering a mix of dominant runs and a frantic last-lap scramble. Over 50 drivers pushed their Ferrari 296 Challenge cars through a scorching penultimate round before the season’s final sprint — and once again, Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale left with a win and another podium finish.
Sunshine, vineyards, rolling hills, and the nearby ocean — Sonoma’s Wine Country backdrop is one of the most scenic stops on the calendar, and one of the most demanding. The 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course is known for sharp elevation changes and almost no margin for error.
Hospitality matched the setting: Casa Ferrari, positioned outside Turn 11, was among the finest venues of the season, and the Donum Estate hosted Saturday’s “Art in Motion” party to close out the day.
Fresh off pole and a win at Laguna Seca, Gutierrez arrived as a favorite and ran near the front all weekend in the No. 21 Ferrari 296 Challenge — but Saturday didn’t go to plan.
Teammate Hayden Gibson, making his first Sonoma start in the No. 6 car, had the cleaner day — climbing from a P10 qualifying spot to finish fifth.
Sunday told a different story. Gutierrez bounced back with a strong Qualifying 2, taking third on the grid just seven-hundredths off pole. In a calmer, tightly matched race, he held that position to the finish — his second podium in as many rounds. Gibson made a decisive move on Lap 13, passing two cars in one attack before getting shuffled back to eighth.
After a second-place finish at COTA and a win at Laguna Seca, Max Hayim made it two in a row with another Time Attack victory in the No. 207 Ferrari 296 Challenge — fastest in every practice session, then more than a second clear of the field in the 15-minute shootout.
Lina Gibson made her Sonoma debut in Time Attack’s No. 209 car, finishing second in the Ladies Cup.
Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale also ran a fifth entry over the weekend: L.T. Gibson in the No. 109 Ferrari 296 GT3 Biposto, logging heavy mileage on one of the season’s toughest circuits ahead of his next outing.
The North American season wraps at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, from September 9–13 — the series’ first trip back to the circuit since 2023. From there, drivers head to Spain for the global Finali Mondiali at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in late November.
First, the team gets a well-earned summer break before the championship’s final push.
