Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale recently welcomed community leaders, philanthropists, and supporters for an evening celebrating 100 years of impact from The Salvation Army of Broward County.
Held on April 28, the event officially launched the organization’s “Opening Doors” Centennial Campaign — a long-term initiative focused on expanding housing support, food access, and essential community programs throughout Broward County.
The evening brought together supporters from across South Florida to honor the organization’s history while introducing its vision for the future.
The program was emceed by WPLG anchor Kristi Krueger and included remarks from:
“As we celebrate 100 years of service, we are not only reflecting on our history — we are building for the future.” said Hayton during the event.
A major focus of the campaign is the expansion of The Salvation Army’s Open Door Shelter, which will add 50 additional beds for individuals experiencing homelessness in Broward County.

In 2025 alone, The Salvation Army of Broward County assisted more than 40,000 individuals throughout the community.
The Salvation Army first established roots in Broward County in 1926 following the devastating Great Miami Hurricane, initially operating from a small red-tent relief operation.
Over the past century, the organization has grown into one of South Florida’s most impactful nonprofit institutions, providing:
Today, approximately 400 people receive meals and shelter daily through Salvation Army programs in Broward County.
