It is often said that as a company, Ferrari is F1 race car builder first, and a consumer super car manufacturer second. That became more clear this week when rumors began circulating that next year could mark the arrival of the a LaFerrari XX built with the new Formula One V6 engine.
Fans of F1 racing will know that the rules have changed for the 2014 season, and cars can now be built with turbocharged hybrid engines. This allows the cars to retain torque and overall horsepower while losing even more weight. Currently, LaFerrari models (like the one in our showroom) are built with the brand’s 6.3-liter V12 engine capable of 949 horsepower.
The LaFerrari XX is a non-street legal car thanks to its racing slick tires and specialized suspension, but we still know there are some collectors out there who would love to get their hands on one of the fastest cars available. Just last week, news came in from Germany where it is being reported that a LaFerrari XX was clocked completing legendary Nürburgring race track in just 6 minutes and 35 seconds. If not for the slick tires, this would give the LaFerrari XX the record for the fastest production-based car to lap the Nürburgring.
We are still waiting for official confirmation of the new LaFerrari XX production, but industry experts think we could see it arrive as soon as next January.
